Hyperbolic Rice: Here We Go Again…Again…

Just thought I’d share this:

We are very concerned that the policies of Iran constitute perhaps the single greatest challenge to American security interests in the Middle East and around the world.” (1)

We haven’t heard that one before either

Lets look at the other greatest challenges we’ve faced according to the Bush Administration:

Bush said preventing bin Laden from striking the United States again is ‘the greatest challenge of our day.‘” (2)

In all that we do, we will never lose sight of the greatest challenge of our time: preserving the freedom and security of this nation against determined enemies.” (3)

The greatest challenge facing people of conscience is to help the forces of moderation win the great struggle against extremism that is now playing out across the broader Middle East.” (4)

I would like to point out that although each of these separate quotes are similar, they were all said at different times when support for unique situations was needed. Also, I don’t intend to at all diminish the seriousness of these issues, however, I do intend to point out that such hyperbolic speech is not productive in the realm of rational discourse.
